Frequently asked questions
Why does Wi-Fi Trace need the camera?
Apple's ARKit uses the camera to work out where your device is as you walk, so the app can place each measurement on the map. Camera images are never saved or uploaded.
Why does it ask for location permission?
iOS only allows an app to read the name of the current Wi-Fi network when it has precise location permission. Wi-Fi Trace does not read or store your geographic location.
Why doesn't it show signal strength in dBm?
iOS does not give third-party apps access to Wi-Fi signal strength. Instead, Wi-Fi Trace measures the connection itself — latency, the slowdown of large packets, jitter and packet loss — and combines them into a quality score that reflects what users actually experience.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad models that support ARKit, running iOS 17 or later.
How do I export my results?
On the results screen, tap Share to export a PNG image with a legend, or a CSV file with every measurement.
